Lineman Training Materials

More than 2,500 student linemen, apprentices and journeymen have participated in the SMDI Lineman Training Workshops. These workshops offer basic and advanced training for colleges, Cooperatives, Municipals and Investor-Owned Utilities.

The materials used in these workshops can be viewed in the sections below, under "Instructor Materials" and "Student Materials." If you would like to schedule a training workshop at your school or utility, please contact Dan Snyder or call 202.452.7100.

Additional Instructor Training Tools

SMDI has developed several tools to help utility lineman training instructors teach about steel poles, both in the classroom and in the field.  As steel becomes more common in distribution systems, it is important to provide hands-on instruction—with proper safety and handling information—to highly skilled linemen in the workforce today and to those interested in becoming linemen.
